Cleaning the Mer de Glace

The Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) is a Glacier, part of the Mont Blanc in the French Alps. 7 km long, 200 m deep ! ItÕs the longest frenchÕs glacier. Born at 2 400m, The Mer de Glace is fed by the Glacier du GŽant, the Glaicer de Lechaud and the Cascade du Talfre.
During the winter the snow that cover the Mer de Glace made it white. During the summer, after the snow has melted, the ice appears, the crevasses, seracs and waterÕs pockets too. As the glacier is always walking down (300m per year at the top, 80 m per year at the bottom) each year the Mer de Glace offers a new faceÉ and new waste : cable, old skis, cans (bear, fruit juice, coca-colaÉ), woods, moneyÉ thrown away years ago when people supposed that ice and snow will cover everythingÉ
Nowadays is another day and civic projects, like Club Alpin Franais or Moutain Riders, took time to get up in the Mer de Glace and try to clean it during summerÕs time. Today 4 tonnes of wreckage has been extracted from the Mer de Glace. How much Tomorrow ?
